About the Center
The Center for Emergency Health Services is a non-profit 501(c) 3 educational institution dedicated to the advancement of Emergency
Medical Services through the delivery of high quality, meaningful education programs.
The Center for Emergency Health Services mission is to offer convenient, affordable, high quality education and occupational
preparation within a setting that promotes innovation, personal development, career advancement and enhanced delivery of patient
care in the out-of-hospital setting.
Initial certification programs for Emergency Medical Services providers and continuing education programs to Emergency Medical
Services and other professional practitioners are offered at locations in Richmond and Williamsburg Virginia.
Incorporating a multi-disciplinary team approach, each program is structured to provide comprehensive, meaningful training and
education for providers at every level. The innovation in this approach is that we bring together professional educators,
physicians, nurses, paramedics and pre-hospital instructors to provide a balance of knowledge, skill, critical thinking and
humanism to our students. This practice has been successful in producing a student who is not only technically competent and
deliberate, but humanistic as well.
Society is becoming more demanding in all areas of education. The current trend in professional education is to demonstrate,
in quantitative ways, the value and quality of the program. Simply adhering to some old published standard is no longer adequate
to convince the health care community that educational programs are satisfying the needs of its constituency. Government, society,
and the profession are demanding that educational programs are held accountable for the product that they are producing.
The Center for Emergency Heath Services encourages this increased accountability, and we respond by publishing our student’s
results. To demonstrate the quality of our programs, our faculty has provided initial certification training to over 1000 Emergency
Medical Technician Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic students since 1995, with a successful completion rate of 99.2 percent.
The success rate of our students on the National Registry Paramedic examination is the highest in Virginia, 87.6% on the first
attempt. To place this in perspective, the overall pass rate across the United States on the National Registry EMT Paramedic
examination is fifty-seven percent.
